Our lovely two bedroom stone-built cottage comfortably sleeps up to four people and is located in a picturesque part of Slingsby village, overlooking All Saints Church, the ruins of Slingsby Castle, the village playing fields and the beautiful countryside beyond.
The peaceful village of Slingsby nestles on the northern edge of the Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is well catered for with a fantastic dog-friendly pub, The Grapes Inn, which serves great food and beer and a farm shop which supplies most day to day requirements.....as well as some rather delicious home-made cakes and pastries for a special treat!
The village lies close to the bustling market town of Malton, which is known as Yorkshire's food capital. The magnificent Castle Howard, one of Britain's finest stately homes, is a mere 3 miles distant and the historic city of York is within easy reach, as are the beautiful North Yorkshire moors and coastline. There are some lovely walks and cycling routes right on the doorstep. This is such a great base from which to explore the many and varied delights that the area has to offer.
The cottage has been decorated and furnished throughout to give a warm and homely atmosphere. There is a comfortable living room featuring a wood-burning stove and a spacious dining-kitchen, fitted with hand-painted cabinets and marble work tops. Both downstairs rooms have exposed, stripped-pine floorboards with rugs, while the staircase and bedrooms are fully carpeted. There are two double bedrooms upstairs, one with twin single beds and one with a king-size (5ft) double bed, sleeping up to four guests, along with a good-sized family bathroom.
Holly Cottage has many characterful details, including double-glazed wooden sliding sash windows throughout, a rustic wooden newel post in the living room, original cast-iron fireplace (not in use) in the master bedroom, vaulted ceiling with exposed beams in the twin bedroom and ledged and braced internal pine doors with latches to all upstairs rooms. Heating is mainly by way of electric night-storage radiators.
In front of the cottage lies a pretty, enclosed garden with borders having been planted for year-round interest, a circular lawn, a rose arch and patio areas for sitting out, along with a small fish pond and garden shed. The garden enjoys a delightful outlook over its charming surroundings and a garden gate gives access to a graveled parking space to the side.
All bedding, bed linen and towels are included. A welcome pack is also provided, which will include tea, coffee, milk, one of Caroline's scrumptious home-made cakes and a bottle of wine or fizz (please advise preference when booking). There is the added benefit of free unlimited Wi-Fi, with a good signal available to all rooms.
We allow one well-behaved dog as a guest at a small extra charge and given prior notice....see tariff & terms.
Please note that smoking is strictly not permitted.
